Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), formerly known as Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was established as the Uttar Pradesh Technical University through the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 8 May 2000. To manage all the tasks efficiently, the university was bifurcated into separate universities, Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) and Mahamaya Technical University (MTU), with effect from 1 May 2010. In 2013, as a new government came into power, the university was formed by combining Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) and Mahamaya Technical University (MTU) on 5 January 2013. The chancellor of the university is Anandiben Patel and the Vice chancellor is Dr. Vineet Kansal. Major decisions are made by them.
The university is approved by AICTE and UGC. The university offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate courses. There are many private colleges affiliated to Dr. A.P.J.
